Greg Dyke Has Lost the Plot. Let's Help Him get it Back.

I've got to have my first short rant about Greg Dyke's proposals for the improvement of English football.  There will be more.

What is he thinking about when he wants to insert a new B-team league into the existing structure of English football?

Could it be that English players languishing in the reserves of the big Premier League clubs will suddenly be playing top class football?  No they won't.  They will be playing in a meaningless competition, in empty stadiums, when they could be playing in meaningful competitions with relatively full stadiums if the FA just showed some common sense.

The FA should introduce a draft system, such as exists in American Football in the USA.  All Premier League Players who qualify for England and have not played 50% of their club's games, unless injured, would then be put on a draft list and the club at the bottom of League 2 would get the first pick on January 1st each year and the team at the top of the Championship would get the last pick of the first round of the draft.  That player would then stay on loan with the club that picked him for a calendar year unless the club he's come from requires him for first team duty.

There would be as many rounds as needed to get all the English players on Premier League clubs books, not playing first team football, out on loan to lower league clubs.

The player's wages would be paid by his Premier League club.

Teams could sell their draft picks to other teams to raise funds.

Both the above measures would count as a contribution by the Premier League to the benefit of football in England and Wales as a whole.

If you have any thoughts on this please share them with me.  I'm sure this could be refined into something workable that doesn't rip up the fabric of English and Welsh football.
